All donations to Kicks for Cancer 2022 will directly fund a joint research lab headed by Dr. Dipanjan Chowdhury (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) and Dr. Kevin Elias (Brigham and Women’s Hospital). Dr. Chowdhury and Dr. Elias are developing a groundbreaking new blood test for early detection and diagnosis of ovarian cancer. They are working to get premarket approval (PMA) from the FDA in order to offer their serum microRNA diagnostic test for women with a known familial or genetic risk for ovarian cancer. The test enables the identification of non-metastatic ovarian cancer in asymptomatic women without requiring unnecessary surgeries or invasive tests. Once Drs. Chowdhury and Elias have PMA, they can begin offering the test to patients. This testing is on the forefront of ovarian cancer research, and Kicks is honored to donate the 2022 net proceeds of the 2022 event to support this important effort.
Kicks for Cancer has been steadily raising funds for women's research since its inception in 2007. Kicks joined forces with the Mighty Moose 5k in 2018 (its inaugural year) and together have contributed almost $1.4 million to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital to advance women's cancer research.
